Hanya joined National Defence in 2001 and is the Deputy Director of the Directorate of Policy and Programs Intelligence. In 2012 she received the Chief of Defence Intelligence Commendation for her work helping Canada meet its international commitment to the Rwandan and former Yugoslavian International Criminal Tribunals. She earned the Canadian Forces Medallion for Distinguished Service in 2014 for her work in the Canadian espionage case. She was a legal advisor for the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (2007-2008), accompanying the Canadian delegation to the Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation’s Anti-bribery working group, and to the Conference of State Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption. A member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, she completed her LLB at the University of Ottawa.
